Smash and Grab: Over $50,000 in Unopened Product Stolen at Tennessee Shop

Another burglary at a sports card shop in the south. Just days after a thief stole over $20,000 worth of unopened boxes of cards from a store in Lexington, KY, another burglary resulted in a major loss for a Knoxville, TN business.

A suspect used tools to break the bottom part of a glass front door at Eddie’s Sports Treasures around 12:45 AM Sunday and then crawled inside the store.

Heading directly to the shop’s inventory of current boxes, they grabbed over $54,000 worth before heading out the door. 

Owner Eddie Barkley says the theft took about two minutes and two trips.  Two full cases were taken first, then the thief returned to the store’s display shelves to grab additional boxes.

Barkley told SC Daily the person seen in the video snared eight boxes of 2020 Panini National Treasures football with a retail price of $3,500 each.  Among the other items stolen were full cases of 2018 and 2020 Bowman Chrome Baseball, three boxes of 2020-21 Prizm Basketball, four boxes each of 2020 Encased and Limited Football and a box of 2020 Mosaic Football.

Knoxville Police are reviewing video from neighboring shops. and an investigation is underway.

WATE-TV carried a story on the burglary during the station’s 6 PM newscast on Monday.
