Topps Releases 2022 Baseball Card Design

Production work on sports card releases begins not long after the previous year’s product is released. Topps has been working on the design and other elements for its 2022 flagship baseball product as the current season plays out.

On Thursday morning, they revealed just what those cards would look like.

Topps unveiled the design for 2022 with a mockup of a card for Tampa Bay Rays prospect Wander Franco.

The white border that made its return this year is back and the look is a more straightforward design, highlighted by a “partial baseball” in the lower left that houses the team logo.  The player’s name is in white, surrounded by a colored background.

The use of Franco’s card pretty clearly seals the deal that his official rookie cards will indeed be in 2022 Series 1 rather than the 2021 Update product, as per agreements with the MLB Players Association.

2022 Topps Series 1 is expected to arrive in early February.  More details on the product, including insert sets, autographs and other content are expected to be released soon.
