Hundreds More T206 Cards from David Hall Collection Now at Auction

There are impossibly scarce variations, one-of-a-kind miscuts, a Ty Cobb printing error that turned the famous back from red to orange and dozens of hard to find backs.  The latest edition of the auction series that is spreading T206 treasures from the famed collection of David Hall across the hobby is underway.

Heritage Auctions has launched Part VI of the ongoing series of sales featuring cards from Hall’s ten-year quest to collect not just the T206 set, but every variation and oddity he could locate.  It was the most comprehensive T206 collection ever assembled and it has taken multiple auctions to fairly distribute the 5,000+ cards to other avid collectors.

The current auction includes over 650 lots.  It includes more cards featuring the icons that highlight the set, like a Cy Young (bare had shows) graded PSA 7; four different Ty Cobb cards including that unique and striking orange background version created when one of the red-colored layers wasn’t added during the printing process; a PSA 7 Nap Lajoie (with bat) that ranks as the highest Factory 42 overprint; the one and only Jeff Sweeney card confirmed with a “Broad Leaf 460 Series” brand back; the only Larry Schlafly with a rare Drum Cigarettes brand back and multiple cards of Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson and other stars of the day.

“The hardest cards for me to find were some of the Drum backs and some of the Broad Leaf 460s,” Hall stated in a video Heritage produced for the ongoing auction.  “They’re so rare. I would go to the National and if there were one or two Broad Leaf 460 backs, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.  Some of the Drums, there’s only one card known.”

The collection has already generated millions of dollars in winning bids but this auction isn’t just for high rollers.  There are numerous common T206s in the auction that carry $1 minimum bids and are expected to sell for around $100.

Bidding runs through January 21.
